Anthony is my brother from another mother. We sang, we prayed, we coached, we talked since 1980. His joy for life shines. I will miss my friend who could lift me up and also call me out when I was being foolish. I am sure he will hold a place for us at the Lord's table....and in heavens chorus.

Dear Family of Anthony, I am so sorry for your loss, Anthony was one of the best men I have ever known. He was godfather to my daughters Duncan Burns, Elizabeth Smith and Deanna Leitch. He stood by our sides through everything. My girls counted on him for advice and counseling and love and lots of laughter. When Duncan was in a near fatal car accident he was there everyday. He has been the best friend to all of us. I am so proud to have known him. Thank you for sharing him. I know that he is in heaven watching over all of his many friends. I will miss him always. I loved him so much.

We at the Carolina Beach Parks & Recreation Department send our deepest condolences to Anthony's family. I worked with Anthony for 9 seasons of our youth basketball league. I couldn't ask for a better coach, role model, friend, and supporter for our basketball program and the kids in it than Anthony. He was always one of the coaches that kids most requested every season and his teams and players always seemed to improve greatly from beginning of the season to the end. Anthony loved the Rec. and the Rec. loved him. Anthony and his smile and enthusiasm will be greatly missed by myself, our staff and all of the kids who were coached by and looked up to him through the years. I am sure that many many of them have and will take lessons Anthony taught them into their adult lives. Thank you Coach!! We will miss you!

To all of Coaches family, we thank you for sharing this wonderful man with us. I have had the honor of knowing Anthony for over 10 years as he coached my son in basketball and as my son grew into a man he became an assistant coach for Anthony. A better role model for the kids you will never find! Anthony not only coached these kids , he made a point of keeping up with them long after they aged out of his teams and made sure they were staying on the right path! May you take comfort in knowing How much Anthony was loved and respected! He will be missed but he is in the arms of the Angels. RIP Coach, we will be playing ball again in a perfect Tarheel heaven!!

As every flower fades and as all youth Departs, so life at every stage. So every virtue, so our grasp of truth, Blooms in it's day and may not last forever. Since life may summon us at every age Be ready, heart, for parting, new endeavors. Be ready bravely and without remorse To find new light that old ties cannot give. In all beginnings dwells a magic force For guarding us and helping us live. Serenely let us move to distant places And let no sentiments of home detain us. But lifts us stage by stage to wider spaces. If we accept a home of our own making, Familiar habit makes for indolence. We must prepare for parting and leave-taking Or else remain the slaves of permanence. Even the hour of our death may send Us speeding on to fresh and newer spaces. And life may summon us to newer races. So be it, heart: bid farewell without end. -Hermann Hesse
